Barbara J. Winter thinks of herself as an accidental author. When she started her first business in 1974 she thought she’d put her passion for teaching to work. With that business, The Successful Woman, Barbara planned to create a pioneering personal development program designed for women.
Almost immediately, she realized that publishing a newsletter would be a natural way to keep the learning alive once women left her seminars. By default, she became the newsletter’s editor and only writer.
A dozen years later, she shifted gears and began sharing her new passion for creative self-employment. With a portfolio of popular seminars, including Making a Living Without a Job, Establish Yourself as an Expert and How to Support Your Wanderlust, Barbara began teaching throughout the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
Winning Ways, her newsletter on creative self-employment, is now entering its twenty-fourth year of publication.
In 1993, her first book, Making a Living Without a Job: Winning Ways for Creating Work That You Love arrived on bookstore shelves. Despite the fact that the book contains no reference to the Internet or online opportunities, it has remained in print, finding new audiences year after year. In August, 2009, Making a Living Without a Job was published in a spiffy updated edition.
Now a resident of Las Vegas, Barbara continues to share her passion for imaginative self-employment as a professional speaker and retreat leader. She believes that creating longevity is one of her top talents.
She is also an enthusiastic user of Twitter where she’s known as @joblessmuse. You can also visit Barbara at JoyfullyJobless.com.
